Through this blog I want to share the fun I'm having in building and operating my model railroad - the Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe Railway.
Right up front, I want to say thank-you to my wife, Beth; my daughters, Eliza and Alexandra; and my good friends Greg, Rod, John F and John C, Brendan, Noel, Vic, Barry, Bruce, Rob, Darren, Geoff, Doug, Butch, Roy, Dwane and Gordon, for their help and encouragement.
Good yard design for model railroads
I stumbled across this web page on designing yards for model railroad operations. In his notes, the author (Ragnar Torfason) makes the following comments:
"The value of a freight yard-model or prototype is not measured
by how many cars can be stored in the yard, but by how smoothly and
efficiently cars en route to and from their destinations can be
processed in the yard."
Ragnar recommends the following basic design:
I totally agree with Ragnar, and I recommend his page to anyone who is looking for a design for a yard for their layout.
